Medical Capabilities
While a medical vessel’s capacity is dependent on several factors*, the Mercy-85 can handle 1,300 patients/per bed/per year for a total capacity of 13,000 patients per year. For comparison purposes, five fully equipped Mercy-85 vessels have the same capacity as a major metropolitan trauma center in the US, such as the Emergency department of the Boston Medical Center. Each vessel is capable of servicing the basic needs of a population base of 50,000 persons.
